The Houston, TX underground rap crew known as The Band of the Hawk Underground Pyramid (#BOHUP) comes through with their full-length LP titled Kangol, that was produced by Noah Archangel. Featuring 13 tracks, the guys of #BOHUP bring their A-game, delivering meaningful bars over dope lo-fi boom bap production. Highlights on the album include the light and airy, electric guitar-infused “Spirit Bomb” and the cool, calm and collective “Funny Bunny” that urges folks not to speak unless it’s about the money. The crew even takes it back to the days of skits in Hip-Hop with a witty one of their own titled “Phite Weoples.” Another track mentioning is the super smooth “Golden Child” where each member of the track gets a chance to tap into a more braggy flow that adds more dimension and versatility to the album. After previously blessing us with their spectacular “Flux Capacitor” drop, Houston’s answer to The Wu-Tang Clan and early Pro Era, The Band of The Hawk, have finally released their “Kangol” project. Completely produced by original BOHUP member, Noah Archangel, and mostly upheld by Yeaux Majesty’s idiosyncratic rhymes, “Kangol” is this Texas collective’s 2019 endowment to the world of lo-fi, underground Hip-Hop. A world wherein they are slowly, but surely, becoming kings. The coronation occurs through a bevy of rap-heavy, boom-bap jams. Between sample-driven instrumentals, skits, and the lyrical ventures of featured BOHUP artists, Yeaux Majesty and Noah Archangel string together an impressively cohesive offering. Bangers, such as “Downtown Friday Nights”, “Bedrock”, “‘19 Mentality”, “Golden Child”, and “All U Need” flow seamlessly down this river of Golden Age musicality. If not for the apparent tracklist, “Kangol” could very much be presented as one, elongated piece of music; and that quality alone makes it superior to every other project released alongside it. In the space and history of lyrical, archaic, underground Hip-Hop, this project could very well become a classic. And The Band of The Hawk, the South’s answer to the legendary, old-school rap crews we hardly go a day without giving praise.
Paul Marz recruits Elijah Miguel for his latest single ‘I Don’t Know Why’ (produced by J.Glaze) In his recent interview on Staten Island Cable Paul says “The song came together quick working with Glaze. The premise behind the song is to understand that concept of I don’t know why and just accepting sometimes you don’t have the answer to something. At some point in everybody’s life we have all said I don’t know why. “ If Mr. Marz knows one things it’s how to pen together a 16. In the first verse he goes I give thanks, I drowned in blessings So I don't ever thirst when I walk in the desert My tongue is my sword, my sword is my weapon War is expected..The lord is my shepard He ends the verse strong with Foundations crumbled, they knew that from jump They built the country up screaming "death to your son" Uncle Sam wants you, that's right he wants you! To die fighting for something without damn a clue The song has a memorable factor of a favorite pop song yet. The song are ear opening with content and production hitting like a Tribe Called Quest track. ‘I Don’t Know Why’ is the song radio needs but will probably never play. Radio or not this could be Paul’s launchpad into stardom without a trendy dance or gimmick but real hip hop that awakens the mind. Something that only few can create.
