Now, eighteen years later, an Orlando rapper is making sure to remind us of that lecture; and drive its point even farther forward than before. For Playboy Ronnie, its paramount to remind his friends and foes of the importance of “Guns And Butter”; and his four-minute, July drop flawlessly does so. Introduced by a sample of that iconic convo, and featuring the likes of 2Tooly, “Gunz And Butter” is a hardbody, street anthem. 


An airy melody is splashed by thunderous drums and 808s, whom yield only to the auto-tuned inflections of the two artists coasting them. The hook is unspeakably superb— styled by the grittiness of its delivery, catchiness of its melody, and smoothness of its street-hardened bars. “Guns And Butter” is unlike anything else bubbling in The Sunshine State; and its creator, unlike any other rapper repping Orlando. During that time, he was introduced to fellow artists Fire Flame and Q Clouds who started recording with him after vibing and throwing around ideas. They will also be making appearances on the mixtape among other guest features. For Long Way Home, Chang$ pulls out all the stops, showing his range and versatility as an artist. From the up-tempo, trap-infused “Run Up The Check” to the heartfelt “Hearts Make Home” where he gets sentimental about a love lost, he makes it a point to show listeners that he can juggle multiple styles and topics without missing a beat. The mixtape will also feature his official debut single “Do You Believe Me Now” that’s a turn-up party anthem that’s just in time for summer. Decatur, Georgia rap artist Chang$ delivers the self-directed video for his latest single "Run Up The Check” that follows the day in the life of a young hustler and the obstacles that await him. Shot by GLS, the visual shows a hungry Chang$ who attempts to get money by any means necessary. After he makes a phone call to a plug who decides to give him a chance and put him on, he's faced with a challenge that puts his life in danger. As the plot unfolds, we learn that things aren’t always what they seem. “Run Up The Check” was directed and written by Chang$ himself and shows his range not only as an artist but a creative. Hopefully, this won’t be the last time we see him take the reigns as a director. Aside from the video, the song itself is an up-tempo trap-infused street anthem that will definitely put you in tune with your inner hustler. Man-E Man knows exactly what he is doing. Not only is he authentically conferring himself through the music he’s presenting, but he is likewise bringing a new sound to Oakland, California; and “Maintain” is three minutes of absolute proof. Yet, you should not mistaken this appeal to our modern climate of Hip-Hop, for an abandonment of Oakland rap. The attitude and energy of O-Town is undeniable on this record; delivered over rolling 808s and an ominous melody, through the placid inflection that the lot of our West Coast greats are known for. As vehemently as the likes of Too Short, Philthy Rich, and Mistah F.A.B, Man-E Man also lyrically crusades for Oakland’s recognition. And he’ll be damned if, after this titanic single, Hip-Hop’s new school does not acknowledge what the Bright Side of the Bay has to offer.

One thing that will always go absolutely respected over here is versatility. The ability, as an artist, to prove that your talent extends beyond just one form of artistry; and how variously you can connect with the audience of the world. After dropping his modern-trap dedication to his younger brother, “25”, Brandon Mitchell is spinning back around with “Dope”; and its sonic difference from the aforementioned banger proves exactly that: he has much more to offer the globe. Featuring Rockomal and Sasha Mari, “Dope” is a more intensely, melody-powered track; bolting a luscious, slow-jam groove that totally rivals the last. It exhibits Brandon Mitchell in a completely different atmosphere; spitting over a colorful chord progression, ghostly background vocals, and bouncing trap drums. The music video that chaperones this drop is just as vibrant; depicting the Kansas emcee, as well as who appears to be Rockomal, rocking to the feel-good smash in the middle of a desert. If not a metaphor for this summery single, it certainly could be. The song is as hot as the earth they are walking on. Between Brandon Mitchell’s rhymes, Rockomal’s and Sasha Mari’s unique, sing-song offerings, and the torrid production that backs them, “Dope” is definitely poised to rule our May, June, and July. This is precisely what we have been waiting for. Since Summer Walker’s fiery onset in 2018, ignited by her chart-topping “Girls Need Love” record; the lot of us have waited with bated breaths for someone to offer a rendition. Their own take on the smoldering smash. Now, we may finally have it; lifted from the lungs of the young, North Carolina crooner, Abryon. With an awe-striking command over melody and harmony, this Southern singer aims to remind us that “Girls Need Love Too”. A sultry music video, and autotune-driven remix, are his main means of doing so. As he passes between various scenes with two particular women, the Tarheel vocalist unhinges a bit more of his amorous soul. He confides in them his desire to be anything and everything they could ask for; ultimately giving us everything we could ask for in a Summer Walker remix: pleas full of passion that’ll feel everlasting.

 Flipping one of Post Malone’s biggest records as of late, into their own, titanic release, is Jet City Records. Over the chart-topping instrumental of “Wow.”, the north coast collective send their lyrical best. AG Soulja, LOCO 2k, Nikki Ross, and label heads, Rup Monsta, Skylar and Mic North, each bludgeon the beat with valiant verses. One after the other, this amazing ensemble of Jet City’s talented prove not only how gifted they are individually, but how much harder they can punch as a unit. “I got the glow!” Despite the vibrant subject of Tef Kaluminoti’s March offering, it may be the most diabolical single of the Spring. His four-and-a-half minute “The Glow” is aggressive and abysmal; pumping with the unstoppable energy of North Carolina. As the first single to his upcoming EP, “AMEN”, this record makes a jaw-dropping declaration. It maneuvers jolting 808s, a rushing melody, and earth-shattering drums and world-splitting rhymes, all to warn that this Rocky Mount rapper should not be ignored. The only thing subtle about “The Glow” is the eerie buzz of an electric guitar that’ll tantalize your headphones about each verse. Otherwise, this track is insanely audacious; with Tef Kaluminoti, and his Juicy J-esque flow and persona, bringing it dangerously full-circle. Keep your ears open for “AMEN” when it drops. If “The Glow” is any indication, we are in for a sinister surprise.
