Even in March, the Valentines Day emotions are still rolling in. One artist, intent on this season of sensuosity continuing, is Benji Kriis. In a glowing wave of autotune, the New Jersey crooner lets every lady know where to go for love: “Hotel Rendezvous”. This two minute record is the paragon of modern R&B. Melodious, impassioned vocals, illuminated by delay and autotune, coast a gentle, trap-ladened beat. Lyrics, regarding Benji’s growing lust for this female character, poke through floating bells and a slow-rolling bassline. All the while, a ravishing fog is growing thicker and thicker around you. Before you know it, you are submerged in the Nigerian-born singer’s enticing depictions. “Hotel Rendezvous” is an undeniable mood-setter; with Benji Kriis proving just how excellent in can be in the modern R&B circuit. A latin guitar, seasoned by a wispy vocal sample and ad-libs from Maor Mo, himself, slowly spark his latest single, “Karaoke”. Featuring the undeniable, Hip-Hop legend, Talib Kweli, early into the record, “Karaoke” foreshadows its potential as a chart-topping, R&B hit. The flame shoots up the wick the moment our Floridian crooner busts into his initial verse: a fast-pace rhyme bouncing along steady percussion. Albeit, a captivating way to kick off an R&B record; the real explosion occurs the moment his first melody is vocalized. He incinerates icons, T-Pain and Drake, with a fiery, harmonized bridge that slides into a scorching, soulful chorus. This energy is forwarded into his succeeding verse; however, the instant an anticipated, “Black Star” someone graces the mic, all hell breaks loose. With a quick, yet classic verse that will certainly magnetize Hip-Hop heads worldwide, Talib Kweli brings the energy of “Karaoke” full circle. The emcee inertia Maor Mo kicked off this record with, flows smoothly into the legend; and from the legend, into this epic, radio-ready smash. As passionately as he references them on his hook, there will be no more “Karaoke” bars for this Miami musician. With a song like this he’s headed for a much bigger stage. @Maor

Slow and solemn, a haze of ambiance glides floats along your peripherals. Before this chill completely engulfs you, a warm 808 splits it in half, and the tap of a rimshot pushes gentle, West Coast crooning into the mix. It is rising, Los Angeles R&B talent, DMNS; wrapped in autotune, formally welcoming you to his latest single, “Sacrifices”. And it is an ethereal welcome, to say the least. The rattle of subtle hi-hats and bounce of R&B drums will guide you through the melodic mist of the record; whilst DMNS’s flavorful, reverberating harmonies tug at the very threads of your heart and soul. “For you I make sacrifices...” he sings, backed by arctic ad-libs and vocal alternates; whose presence create this unique duality for the song. Yes, our singer’s delivery and intentions are warm, however, the reality that surrounds him is callus, cruel and cold. For his warmth to be felt; for DMNS’s love to truly be cherished, he must make “Sacrifices”. That realization is what brings us this chilling, alternative R&B record; and this chilling, alternative R&B record will be the reason DMNS is eventually on everyone’s radar.

Like a romantic molasses, Da Twin Prince will slowly slide into your heart. Not empty-handed either; in tow, will be his brand new, anthemic love-song, “Preparation and Practice”; all you’ll need to fall head over heels for this Brooklyn talent. As custom of new-wave, alternative R&B, “Preparation and Practice” is commenced with a pitched down vocal sample. The Farro Jarro production is then spruced up with the surge of a voluptuous bassline; accentuated by sprinkles of snaps and the eventual onset of torrid, trap drums. Over it all, Da Twin Prince gives a performance fitting for the new year. Both vocally and lyrically, the East Coast crooner seems refined on this record. He easily slips into heart-turning harmonies and amorous melodies, both devoted to sending a significant message to his significant other: any one before him was just “Preparation and Practice” for the love he’ll give. When a penchant for songwriting meets a talented taste for melody, artists like Da Twin Prince naturally result. And when that force is at its most sensuous, infectious peak, bangers like “Preparation and Practice” must be anticipated. Just wait until the radio gets a hold of this. Da Twin Prince will have everyone from New York, and beyond, singing right along.

“Not For Sale”

A bubbly, tropical marimba, dripping in a fondue of sweetened, afro-trap percussion and chocolatey vocals form the delicacy that is “Wonka”; an introduction to Kenya-born, Los Angeles-based singer, Victoria Kimani’s, sultry masterpiece, “Afropolitan”. In only seven tracks, the Afropop Queen effortlessly weaves a work of ebony excellence. The deep, afrobeat grooves on tracks such as “Should Be”, “My Sweetie”, “Boom”, and “Not For Sale”, paired with their infectious R&B/Pop palettes, paint the portrait of a masterful creative. Most indisputably, Victoria has conquered the art of blending native rhythms with wide-reaching, mainstream melodies. And her voice is the cherry on top. On all of the tracks, she floats dreamfully, suspended in an atmosphere of reverb and harmony, through lyrics of love, lust, and perseverance. With each breath on this project, it is as if the records become more and more contagious. “Afropolitan” is boundless in range and application; being just as ideal for parties, the car and the club, as it is for a night alone. Considering the rising popularity of world music, and this flawless offering from Victoria herself, don’t be surprised if you see her name popping across the Billboards. She can’t be more than months away from international stardom.

With a brilliant blend of melodic R&B and hardcore trap comes North Carolinian artist, Benjamin Ken. Loaded with fourteen, versatile tracks, is his recent, astronomical endeavor, “BEN 2 REAL”. When it comes down to it, there is a distinct dichotomy that spans the entirety of the project. On one hand lies the gentle, melodious side of the Atlanta-based artist, that bleeds out on records such as “INTRO (HERE FOR YOU)”, “PRETTY GIRL VIBES”, “REAL ONE (ft. Lea Robinson)”, “DRUNK TEXT”, and “LIFELINE”, among others. In the shadow of that hand, lies Ken’s darker half, molded by those Southern streets. That treacherous, trunk-thumping sound can be found in cuts such as “ROOFTOPS”, “2 Real”, “GUCCI (ft. Walt)”, “CELEBRATION” and “CRAZZI”.

What Ken demonstrates through this duality, is the powerful dexterity of his songwriting. He proves proficient in crafting slow-burning, alt-R&B records for the ladies; while, likewise, giving fellas a list of bangers to ride to. The only other we’ve ever known as skilled with this separation of sound, hails from Toronto, and has been dominating the charts for the past ten years, hit after hit. The moment “BEN 2 REAL”, in all of its impressive versatility, hits the mainstream, Benjamin Ken could be following in those same, exact footsteps. Click the link, and see for yourself.

Slick and sultry is Australia’s own, JVNIOR AMOUX’s, twilight opus, “Morning”. The moment you press play, you are greeted by a warm, pitch-altered sample of R&B group, Blackstreet’s 1996 classic, “Good Lovin’” (from their second project, “Another Level). “We can do it ‘til the — morning / Good lovin’ in the evening.” the sample croons seductively, before being utterly overtaken by AMOUX’s own velvety vocalization. Wrapped in the warm embrace of milky bassline and rich groove of drums, the Sydney singer flexes his penchant for songwriting, caroling melodiously with autotuned allure. He certainly knows how to craft a record; diving into memorable bridges and runs throughout his verses. That talent reaches its zenith on this record, when the songbird enters the chorus, embellishing every second of the hook with angelic harmonization and clever interpolations of Blackstreet’s original lyrics. “Morning”, by all accounts, is a mood-setter; fit for that late night, at-home date, and its steamy morning-after. With cuts like these under his belt, JVNIOR AMOUX is peerless as Australia’s PR&B prodigy.

"I'm not your regular...don't call me Reggie", words taken from the new hit single "Regular". That describes New York City based hip hop/R&B duo MAJIX (pronounced “magic”) who are set to explode onto the music scene. With the release of their single “Regular ”, Taylor Nirvana Jones and Mea Wilkerson exude the requisite hustle, independence and inyourface confidence that comes along with living in New York City.

It takes endless amounts of creativity and experimentation before chemistry builds and MAJIX is created! These 2 young ladies are powerful. Their new single “Regular” highlights just how special they are. These lyrical songbirds have been putting in work for a strong seven years, originally going by the name Love Jones Girlz before ultimately reinvinting themselves in 2016. “Regular” is an eargasmic fusion of dope trap bars meshed with sensational vocals over a groovy beat produced by VH1's MRose, B3B3, and Genedaox. The genius is in its clever songwriting using a cultural metaphor to set themselves apart from the rest. MAJIX's unique abilities confirm that they are not regular and their impact wont be either.
